2020 African Cycling Championship: Nigeria To Participate in 8 Events

Not fewer than ten cyclists will represent Nigeria at the Confederation of African Cycling Championship billed to hold in Cairo, Egypt, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The athletes who have been in camping ahead of the tournament with the coaching crew will jet out to Cairo on Tuesday, 14th January, 2020 for the cycling events which commences from 16th to 19th January, 2020.

In the eight events in which Nigeria has comparative advantage and will participate in, four male and six female athletes are set to make the country proud.

Speaking with www.bsnsports.com.ng at the Velodrome inside Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, the president of the federation, Mr Giandomenico Masari is confident that Nigeria will rule Africa in Cycling when the championship take the center stage in Cairo next week.

In his words, "We are at the final stage of the preparations ahead of the 2020 CAC African Championship in Cairo. The camping started since December 10 where five cyclists traveled to South Africa for intensive training from December 11 to 28th, 2019.

"Going by our performance in South Africa during the First edition of the African Track Cycling Tournament where we won 51 medals, Nigeria also qualified for the World Championship which will be held in Germany.

"Though, Nigeria just started cycling but we will do well on Cairo. We are into gear to make we achieve this." He concluded

Nigeria will participate in eight events which includes; Sprint, Individual pursuit, Team Pursuit, Kerin, Madison, Omnion (6 in 1 event), 500m and 1 Kilo Race, and Scratch event.

The championship which starts on January 16th ends on 19th.
