FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup postponed

Due to the Corona virus, the 10th edition of the U20 Women World cup slated for August in Panama and Costa Rica has been postponed indefinitely.

The decision, in a series of recommendations, was reached by the FIFA Confederations working group that was established by the Bureau of the FIFA Council to address the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, BSN Reports.

The working group recommend:

“To postpone the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Panama/Costa Rica 2020 – originally scheduled for August/September 2020. New dates will be identified,”

29 nations in Africa entered the CAF Qualifiers for this tournament with only two slots available. As of now, only the preliminary round has been played with the first round of qualification suspended until further notice.

Nigeria's Falconet was scheduled to face Burkina Faso in the second round of the qualifiers before it was moved due to the virus outbreak.

Nigeria was among country shortlisted to host the women's world cup before the hosting rights was given to Panama and Costa Rica as co-host.
