2020 Olympics: Nigerians should expect a gold medal from me - Eku Ewa Ekuta. By Omolagba Oluwayemi 2020 Edo National Sports Festival Judo women -63 middle weight category gold medalist, Eku Ewa Ekuta has promised to deliver a gold medal for Nigeria at the forth coming Olympics just as she's done for Akwa Ibom State in Edo, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Ewa who attributed her success to God's grace and hard work while speaking to our correspondent said; "It was by God's grace I won. I was thrilled because during the cancellation of the events for about three times, we kept training and I had to juggle from exam school to training house to exam so it was wonderful." "For the preparation of my representation of Nigeria at the Olympics, I have to go for training tours in other countries like England and where my sponsors would like to take me to so after this, I will go back to training and thereafter I have more competitions to prepare me for the Olympics like All Africans Championship in May and before then I still have more competitions, so with good preparations and encouragement from my teammates, government and parent I'll be able to pick a medal at the Olympics," this she said when asked about her preparations for the Olympics. "I'm just going to the Olympics to do my very best because it's like a world class competition and I think I'm ready for it," she added. When asked if she's feeling pressured to deliver at the Olympics, Ewa responded saying; "During Olympics qualifications it was pressure all around so I think on my point have been able to work under pressure because fighting on the mat alone entails pressure which needs one's composure to be able to fight in a match so I I'll be able to work under pressure." "I have no fear going to fight at the Olympics because as my coach do say, no one's leg is glued to the mat and if you can move round the mat you can throw anybody and with this believe in myself, that as long as we're in the same weight category and of the same sex, I can make it." Ewa concluded by promising Nigerians a gold medal at the Olympics even with Tokyo set to be her maiden appearance. "Nigerians should expect a gold medal from me because I intend to pick up a gold medal at my first appearance in the Olympics irrespective of who I'll fight."
