2020 Tokyo Olympics: "She Has A Great Future" - Minister Commends Edem Offiong By Niyi Busari The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has commended efforts of Edem Offiong despite her failure to progress to the next round in the women's singles table tennis event at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Edem Offiong summoned an impressive 4-1 victory (11-8,11-9,11-9,9-11,11-4) over Hungarian Dora Madarasz to secure Nigeria's first win at the Olympic Games. Having progressed to the second round of the women's singles table tennis, Offiong Edem loses to Lily Zhang 4-1 (15-13, 2-11, 2-11, 8-11, 6-11) and was been eliminated from this year's Olympics. Despite the ouster, the minister of Sports, Sunday Dare who commended her efforts saw bright light in the future of the young athlete. He said, “Edem Effiong played her best against Three-time American Champion, Lily Zhang at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics But lost. Edem came close and exhibited strength and talent. She has a great future. Nigeria thanks her for making the country proud at the Olympics." Elizabeth Anyanacho despite her loss in Taekwondo still stand a chance of podium finish as Nigeria await positive results from wrestling and athletics.
