It was Olympic veteran Funke Oshonaike that first suffered defeat but the victory of Edem Offiong brought reprieve back into the team.
Olajide Omotayo who was the third Nigeria in action on the day had a game to forget despite showing some moment of brilliance still suffered defeat.
It was Tiago Apolonia of Portugal that handed him a 4-0 defeat in the men's singles game.
The breakdown of the game that Omotayo succumbed to 7-11, 9-11, 6-11, 5-11 and crashed out of the events.
Meanwhile, the remaining Nigeria representative in women single Offiong will face Zhang Lily of United States on Monday in the second round of the women's singles.
