2021 AFCON Qualifier : Almeria Stop Sadiq Umar
By Sampson Adedeji
Hope of Nigeria international and UD Almeria forward Sadiq Umar making his debut for Nigeria's Super Eagles in the upcoming 2021 African Cup Of Nations qualifiers has been dashed, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The former Dream Team striker was among the 24 Players listed by head coach Gernot Rohr for the double header qualifier against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
The Spanish side on Friday afternoon announced that the club will not be able to release Umar due to the Corona virus restrictions.
" Almería does not allow Sadiq Umar, forward of the rojiblanco team, to travel to Nigeria to join the senior team of his country, as the Almeria entity has communicated to the Negerian federation.
The UD Almería has argued in its writing that “due to the pandemic crisis that we are experiencing due to the SARS-Cov-2 virus (Covid 19), and thoroughly evaluating all the impacts, we believe that the sanitary conditions are not met, nor nor bureaucratic security for our player, Sadiq Umar, to appear for the call with the Nigerian senior team.
Therefore, based on article 3.1b of Annex 1 of FIFA RSTP, we have notified the player not to appear at the aforementioned call," club statement reads
