2021 African Youth Championship To Go Ahead As Participating Countries Announced By Editor Despite the cancellation of the FIFA U20 World Cup, the Confederation of African Football has announced the twelve qualified countries that will participate in the next African Youth Championship in 2021. The world football governing body announced the cancellation of the FIFA U17 and U20 tournaments on Thursday,  December 24, citing the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic as the reason for the decision. The two World Cup tournaments were originally scheduled to take place in Peru and Indonesia. FIFA disclosed in their statement that the recent rise in the COVID-19 cases in the second wave is at an alarming rate, hence the decision to call-off the tournament. The news of the cancellation of the tournaments was received with grim faces as several confederations are seriously preparing for the tournaments. With CAF scheduled to host the U20 AFCON in Mauritania in February and the U17 AFCON in Morocco in July, fears were that the two tournaments could be called off. However, CAF was unperturbed as the twelve countries that picked the tickets to play at the the next Africa Cup of Nations Under-20 football tournament through their zonal qualifiers were announced at the weekend. In addition to the host country, Gambia will represent Zone A of the Union of West African Football Associations (WAFU A). WAFU will count on Burkina Faso and Ghana, the COSAFA Zone will be represented by Namibia and Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda will defend the chances of the CECAFA zone. Cameroon and Central African Republic will wear the colours of the UNIFAC zone and the UNAF will be represented by Morocco and Tunisia. These different teams qualified at the end of zonal tournaments that took place recently in different parts of Africa. The final phase of the AFCON U-20 will take place from February 14 to March 4, 2021, in Mauritania (Nouakchott and Nouadhibou).
