2021 National Youth Games: Ministry of Sports Secures 3,000 Bed Space At Kwara Polytechnic For Athletes, Officials By Niyi Busari Ministry of Youth and Sports Development on Monday secured 3,000 bed space at the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin as accommodation for athletes and officials who have arrived the state for the National Youth Games, BSNSports.com.ng can report. This follows the inability of the host, University of Ilorin to deliver the promised accomodations for the athletes and officials who have arrived the venue on Sunday. BSN Sports gathered that the school as at Monday is still in session as students are yet to finish writing their examinations. They (students) however refused to vacate their rooms and relocate to the Polytechnic to complete writing their papers even after directive from the school authority. Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare said everything is under control adding that the sixth National Youth Games will hold as scheduled. To this end, two Directors from the Ministry of Sports have been drafted to Ilorin in making sure that the facilities, accomodations and equipment that will be used for the Games are put in place. He said, "There is no cause for alarm. The Games will hold as scheduled. I have deployed two Directors to the Kwara State to put accommodation, equipment and infrastructure in place. Five state Directors have okayed the Kwara State Polytechnic where we have secured 3,000 bed space as accommodation for athletes and officials." National Youth Games is an annual event designed to discover talents at the grassroots. Athletes under the age of 16 years from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected participate in 33 sports.
