2022/23 NWFL Suffers Postponement
The Management of Nigeria Womens Football League (NWFL) has announced November 30, 2022 as the new kick off date for the commencement of 2022/2023 League season.
The kick off was initially scheduled for 14th October, 2022 but was forced to be postponed due to logistics reason.
This was contained in a letter addressed to all NWFL Premiership teams on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
In the letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of the league, Mrs Modupe Shabi, stated what neccesitated the postponement.
The letter reads, “I’m directed to inform you that the kick-off date for the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season has been postponed to Wednesday, 30th November 2022, due to logistics reasons.â€
Bayelsa Queens defeated Nasarawa Amazons at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, to become the 2021/2022 Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) champions.
The Yenagoa-based Women's team, led by former junior international, Moses Aduku, were forced to wait till the last day of the NWFL Premiership Super Six play-off to be crowned champions after four victories in the competition.
The Nigeria champions thrashed Ghanaian side, Ampem Darkoa, to win the WAFU B zonal qualifier for the final stage of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The game ended 3-0 in favour of Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens as they stopped Darkoa from qualifying for the last eight in Morocco.
Bayelsa Queens however joined AS FAR of Morocco, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Green Buffaloes of Zambia, Wadi Degla of Egypt, Determine Girls FC of Liberia, and Simba Queens of Tanzania in the final tournament slated for the end of October in Morocco.
