China-based players Desire Oparanoize and Chinwendu Ihezuo will not feature at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
This was revealed in a tweet on the official handle of the Super Falcons.
Oparanoize who was one of the nine forwards called up by Randy Waldrum for the 2022 AWCON in Morocco was replaced in the squad by the Anam Imo while Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene was drafted in for Chinwendu Ihezuo.
“Just In: Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has been called up to replace Chinwendu Ihezuo and Anam Imo will replace Desire Oparanozie,†the tweet revealed.
The Falcons are in Group C at this year’s AWCON alongside South Africa, Botswana and Burundi.
They will open their campaign against South Africa on July 4 in Rabat.
Meanwhile, the 2022 AWCON also doubles as qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
