2022 CECAFA Tournament: Super Falcons Group Opponent Suffers Defeat In Final

The 2022 African Women Cup of Nations debutant and the group opponent of Nigeria's Super Falcons, Burundi on Saturday afternoon suffered a 3-1 defeat in the final of the CECAFA Women Tournament in Uganda, BSNsports.com.ng has gathered.


Eight teams from the CECAFA region had been tussling it out in the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022 at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.


Hosts, Uganda who will also be playing in the 2022 AWCON in Morocco defeated Burundi 3-1 to emerge the winner of the tournament 


The CECAFA Executive Director Aluka Gecheo reasoned that the tournament has provided good testing ground for both Burundi and Uganda who will play in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) takes place next month in Morocco.


"We provided a good environment to compete and Uganda and Burundi who had five games under their belt, that puts them in good shape ahead of the tournament in Morocco,” he said.


Burundi will face Botswana in their opening group game in AWCON before taking on Super Falcons of Nigeria.
