2022 Qatar WCQ: Rohr Banks On Newly Invited Players To Stop Cape Verde
Sampson Adedeji
Head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles Gernot Rohr Is banking on the newly invited players to prosecute the matchday 2 of the world cup qualifier against Blue Shark of Cape Verde, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
30 players were initially invited for the qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde but covid 19 restrictions and other circumstances drastically reduced the number of available players
All the invited players have played for the team one time or the other except Kingsley Michael and Innocent Bonke.
While speaking after the team training on Monday, Rohr spoke about the astroturf pitch and also how he expected the newly players to make positive impact.
"It’s a different pitch because and we are not used to playing on a synthetic pitch, some of our players have played on this pitch before when they were playing in Nigeria but they are now in Europe.
"We train in Lagos on a synthetic pitch, but this one is softer and this is better to play on.
We have to change the team, we have only 19 players available for this game and we have some problems and it’s a challenge.
"I trust these boys that will play for the first time for the Super Eagles, Cape Verde wants to win because they drew their first game. We have been preparing since we are in Lagos, but Cape Verde had more days to recover.
"It will be a physical challenge, but we will be ready," he stated.
