2023 AFCON: CAF Clears Moroccan Coach, To Return Against South Africa
By Sampson Adedeji
48 hours after being sanctioned with four matches, including two suspended games, the African soccer ruling body has cleared the head coach of the Atlas Lions of Morocco Walid Regragui, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The French-born gaffer was sanctioned earlier in the week following his unruly behaviour towards the DR Congo captain Chancel Mbemba.
But the Royal of Morocco Football Federation decided to appeal the sanction.
“The Appeal Commission of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) cancelled the sanction that the Disciplinary Commission had previously imposed on the national coach, M . Walid Regragui, including the financial fine ($5,000), after hearing the arguments of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation", CAF statement said.
The only sanction imposed on Regragui was therefore limited to the suspension match served in the stands on Wednesday against Zambia.
The head coach of the Atlas Lions will therefore make his return to the bench during Tuesday's round of 16 against South Africa.
