Two-time African Player of the Year, Nwankwo Kanu has said teams are now afraid to play the Super Eagles of Nigeria following the 1-0 win over Cote d'Ivoire at the 2023 AFCON, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Super Eagles picked up three valuable points to push the Elephants down to third place courtesy of William Ekong's goal from the spot.

Nwankwo, a Olympic Gold Medalist hailed the players and coaches for putting up a dogged performance to silence the hosts at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.

"Congratulations! It is what it is. Every country is afraid of our dear Super Eagles. So, let’s believe we can do it. Well done boys and well done the coaching crew. Thanks to all that supported and pray for us."

Victory took the Super Eagles to joint-first in group A, only behind Equatorial Guinea on goal difference, while the Elephants sank to third position and must beat Thunder on Monday to guarantee a place in the Round of 16.

On the same day, the Super Eagles will take on the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau, needing only a point to be assured of a place in the Round of 16.
