2023 AFCON Qualifier: Underfire Sao Tome Coach Reveals Reason For Inviting Foreign-Based Players

Underfire head coach of the Sao Tome and Principe Andriano Eusebio has defended his action by inviting foreign-based players for the dead rubber game against Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sao Tome and Principe will be guest of Nigeria's Super Eagles for the final qualifying match in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Despite their automatic elimination from the tournament, the Portuguese gaffer invited 22 foreign-based to prosecute the game.

His action has generated a lot of debate in the country and he has come to defend his decision.

“This call is already thinking about the World Cup qualifying games that start in November.

We have to take into account that, at this time, we will not have championships in the country and the players will be in vacation mode,” he said.

The game against Nigeria is slated for Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
