2023 AFCON Qualifiers: CAF Combs Algeria, Morocco for Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria Match Venue

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is on the verge of killing two birds with one stone by talking to football authorities in Algeria on the possibility of playing host to AFCON 2023 qualifiers between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

A decent source withing the four walls of NFF Scretariats in Abuja revealed that CAF is bent on staging the encounter outside Sierra Leone for safety reason and other logistics inconveniences.

Recall Sierra Leone FA had written to CAF to approve it’s 6000 capacity national stadium in Bo, a city outside Freetown for the match, but the continental soccer-governing body vehemently turned down the request because the facilities in Bo did not measured upto international standard when it was inspected.

Besides, the city did not have any five star hotel as stipulated by the World soccer governing body.

Word was rife that CAF is also looking at other options like Morocco who had in the past offered its stadium for use when Nigeria hammered Sao Tome 10-0

” CAF is looking for alternative venue after rejecting the stadium in Bo, Sierra Leone. We’re only waiting for CAF directives so that we know what to do next,” he said.

Nigeria are topping group A with 9 points in four games. Guinea-Bissau are second with 7 points while third-placed Sierra Leone have 4 and bottom placed Sao Tome and Principe have just one point.

Sierra Leone will host Nigeria in the Match-day 5 of the 2023 CAF AFCON Qualifier on 16th June, 2023.
