2023 FIFAWWC: I Feel Part Of Super Falcons Despite Not Having Game Time -Gift Monday

Super Falcons striker - Gift Nyakno Monday has shared her "goosebumps" feelings about her participation with the team at the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, despite being an unused substitute in Nigeria's two games thus far, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 21-year-old Akwa Ibomite from Southern Nigeria feels elated to be a part of the Super Falcons team according to a recent post on her official social media page, but is yet to play a minute at the World Cup.

"I am very proud of the performance and progress of this incredible group.

"The feeling of being part of this team alone gives me goosebumps.

"We are here to shine and surely, the good run will continue," she posted.

Gift featured 19 times for Unión Deportiva Granadilla Tenerife in the Spanish Primera División Femenino, scoring 3 times while creating 3 more in the 2022-23 season, but will have to bid her time judiciously in the Falcon's starting XI.

To give Gift's international career more context, she was called up to join the Super Falcons In February 2021 ahead of the 2021 Turkish Women's Cup and was part of the team that won the championship while being the first African side to do so.

She scored the eighth goal in the team's 9–0 win over Equatorial Guinea in that period.

Gift played 57 minutes across two games last year (2022), and was on the bench against Haiti while starring for 16 minutes against New Zealand in international friendlies this year (2023).

With the Super Falcons bagging four points from two games and needing none less than a point against the Republic of Ireland in the third group game to make the next round, it is left to be seen if the UDG Tenerife striker will play any part in while the team lasts on the global stage.
