2023 Federation Cup Feat: Insurance Players Decry Unpaid Governor Obaseki Largesse

2023 Nigeria Federation Cup (Tingo Cup) winners, Bendel Insurance of Benin have appealed to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to fulfill his promise of rewarding the team, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The trailing showdown at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba saw Insurance pipped old rivals, Rangers Int'l 1-0, thanks to Imade Osarenkhoe's first-half penalty.

Insurance Federation Cup victory marked a historic milestone for the Benin-based club, who last won a major trophy 41 years ago.

According to top sources within the club, "Governor Obaseki is a talk-and-do man, no doubt but we are still waiting patiently to receive the largesse he promised us.

"Before the final, the Governor promised to change our lives if we bring the trophy home. We are still waiting for our sports-loving Governor to walk the talk," maintained the sources.

Bendel Insurance finished 9th in the log at just the concluded 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
