Bendel Insurance Close In On 2023 NPFL Record With A Game To Go

Bendel Insurance of Edo State have maintained their unbeaten run following a one-all draw with 3SC of Ibadan at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium on Sunday, to make it 17 games unbeaten in the league, and one more game shy of the longest run made by any NPFL team in history.

BSNSports.com.ng reports that the title-winning Akwa United of the 2020-21 NPFL season set the record for the longest unbeaten run in the league, for a stretch of eighteen (18) games between the 20th of February and 19th of June 2021. It was a 38-league-game season. 

The team lost to Nasarawa United away from home on Valentine's day that year, before embarking on the run, till the loss against Katsina United, also away from home, on the 27th of June 2021. Winning ten of those games.

This year, Bendel Insurance who top Group A of ten teams have won eight of the 17 games played, amassing 33 points in that run with one game to go in an abridged 18-league-game format.

Struggling Nasarawa United will welcome Bendel Insurance to their turf for the 18th league game of the season, with a shot to stop the near-invisibles, as a win or draw for Bendel Insurance will not only equal Akwa United's 2021 run, but also complete a NPFL league series undefeated.
