2023 NYG: Olarinoye Wins Three Gold Medals For Lagos In Weightlifting

Florence Olarinoye showed why her experience in the 45kg women’s class at the 2022 National Sports Festival NSF counted as she scooped all the three gold medals for team Lagos on day 2 of the ongoing National Youth Games, NYG 49kg female class in weightlifting event in Asaba on Sunday.

Aged just 13, the younger sister to Adenike Adijat Olarinoye – Africa and Commonwealth Champion – Florence showed class and vision as she outlifted her opponents to secure the all-important three gold medals for her state.

Florence at 12 years, won bronze in 45kg class at the 2022 National Sports Festival, NSF also in Asaba in December last year.

She lifted 56kg in snatch and had an impressive 72kg lift in clean and jerk totaling 128kg to win the medals.

Nigeria’s Capital, the FCT collected all the silver medals after Chidirim Marvelous Ibeh competing for the Green and White team, lifted 53kg in snatch, 67kg clean and jerk and 120kg in total.

Bayelsa State went home with all the three bronze medals courtesy of Christianah Adefemi heroics. She lifted 48kg in snatch, 65 in clean and jerk and 104kg in total to place 3rd on the podium.

The weightlifting event continues on Monday with the 55kg male class taking centre stage at the Hall Three, Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State capital.
