2023 Tingo-NPFL Pre-season Will Involve 8 Teams-Owumi

The second edition of the Tingo-NPFL Preseason tournament will involve the first eight teams on the log of the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League table, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tango Media sponsored a four-team rehearsal competition that will be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos from December 6th to 9th. 

Head of Operation, Interim Management Committee (IMC), Davidson Owumi in an exclusive interview with BSN Sports stated that, unlike the first edition where the sponsor selected the four teams based on brand patronage and the historical heritage of the teams, the second edition will be different as first eight teams on the log will automatically qualify to participate. 

He said, "The tournament is the first of its kind in Nigeria where teams will at the end of three matches receive N100m as a prize. I am happy the IMC in a short time could achieve such a feat. 

"The second edition unlike this maiden edition will have eight teams participating. The sponsor in the first edition selected the four teams because of the brand and historical heritage of the clubs. Rangers International, Shooting Stars, and Bendel Insurance are the oldest teams with heritage in Nigeria and of course, Enyimba International's achievement can not be questioned."

"However, the participating teams in the second edition will involve the first 8 teams on the log."

"Everything has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free preseason and league. We are working, as the tournament will be used to test-run this season's league which kicks off in December."
