2023 U17 AFCON: Algeria Thump Somalia In Tournament Opener

Algeria defeated debutant Somalia in the opening match of the 2023 CAF U17 African Nations Cup in Algiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The game kicks off with Algeria dominating the game and Somalia kept taking the game to them but failed to convert the chances that comes their way.

Skipper Moslem Anatouf intercepted the ball from the Somalia defender and dribbled beyond the shot-stopper and broke the deadlock in the 21st minute.

Algeria almost took a 2-0 lead to the break after a counter, but Shain Chetioui had his curling effort well saved by the goalkeeper.

In the second half, the hosts needed just six minutes to double their tally, skipper Anatouf adding his second of the evening after sliding through at the near post to connect to a corner on the volley.

Somalia tried to reduce the deficit but they were not clinical enough in front of the goal as the game ended 2-0 of the host.
