D'Tigress star player Amy Okonkwo has said newly appointed coach Rena Wakama is the reason for their impressive performance, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Despite having not too impressive preparation, D'Tigress have lived up to the expectations in the ongoing 2023 Women's Afrobasketball championship in Kigali Rwanda.

They thrashed DR Congo in the opening group game and also defeated Egypt in the second game.

Wakama was appointed a few weeks ago to take charge of the team.

" Everything the coach says motivates us. We came for the win, and we knew we had a target painted on our backs.

"We have a standard that we play to and we've been trying to establish a new standard with the new coach. We stepped on the court for each other and we're ready to play for each other and the country", she said.

Nigeria's D'Tigress will hope to continue their good form when they face Mozambique in the quarter-final.
