2024 AFCON: Nigeria Beat Liberia Face Morocco In Semifinal

The Special Eagles of Nigeria have recorded a 2-1 victory, securing their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt.
The Nigerians took the lead in the 35th minute of the encounter but the Liberians equalized few minutes into the second half of the encounter. But the special Eagles took the lead again to record two wins in two games and progress to the tournament’s semi final stage.
Nigeria’s victory sets up a challenging semi-final clash against one of the tournament favorites, Morocco, who advanced after defeating Egypt 4-2 in another intense encounter. The Special Eagles have displayed remarkable resilience and determination throughout the tournament, embodying the indomitable Nigerian spirit.
Apart from grabbing a semi-final spot, the Nigerians have also secured a spot in the 2026 Amputee World Cup, to be held in Morocco. Reflecting on the team’s journey and the upcoming challenge, Technical Director Victor Onyekachukwu emphasized the team’s focus and discipline.
“We remain focused, taking one game at a time. We approached this match knowing the importance of discipline and securing maximum points,”
“We are not carried away by our last result, an 11-0 victory over Burundi. We understand that the competition gets tougher at every stage.”
Looking ahead to the semi-final against Morocco, Onyekachukwu acknowledged the strength of their opponents but maintained confidence in his team’s preparation.
“Morocco is a very technical and determined side, but we are not under any pressure. We will go back, prepare thoroughly, and ensure our team delivers.” He said
