2024 Dreams Basketball Tourney: Showtyme Hoopers Crowned Champions

The Dreams Basketball tournament's third edition concluded on Wednesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, saw Showtyme Hoopers emerge as champions in the male category, while Showtyme Angels took top honours in the female category, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
In the men's final, Showtyme Hoopers dominated Hoop Dreams, winning 74-49. This came after a hard-fought semi-final victory over the University of Ibadan basketball team, with a narrow 47-43 margin. On the other hand, Hoop Dreams defeated Lagos Raptors 51-38 in their semi-final match.
In the female category, Showtyme Angels convincingly defeated Amazons of Lagos with a score of 72-54 in the final.
The Dreams Basketball Tournament, now in its third year, was founded by Tunji Soroye, a former player for Lagos Islanders and the University of Virginia. Soroye's passion project aims to give back to the basketball community and provide opportunities for young players to shine.
The tournament featured 10 clubs competing in both male and female categories, with the champions receiving substantial cash prizes.
Showtyme Hoopers received N600,000 for their first-place finish, while Hoop Dreams took home N400,000 for second place. In the female category, Showtyme Angels received N300,000 for their championship win, while Amazons of Lagos received N200,000 for second place.
The success of the tournament represents a significant achievement for basketball in Oyo state. Soroye's initiative is poised to inspire a new generation of players and fans alike.
