2024 WAFCON Qualifier: São Tomé Can Shock Super Falcons- Pipi Santos

Newly appointed São Tomé and Príncipe national women's football team coach, Lígia Santos, says they can create an upset against Super Falcons, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Lígia Santos, better known as Pipi Santos, who signed a contract valid for one year, will have to prepare the national women's team for her first major assignment, a Group A Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against powerhouse the Super Falcons.

The game is proposed for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in September.

She told STP she is satisfied and optimistic, believing that given what she had been seeing and with more time, it will be possible for São Tomé and Príncipe to reach new heights.

“We're not going to promise anything, but if you let us do our job, we'll make history.''

“This is what I wanted, to be in this position. It's a dream for anyone who loves football, who lives football like me, this is my place, it was what I wanted to do”, said the new national coach in tears of emotion.

Lígia Santos has been working for several years in favor of national women's football, so the appointment makes her very pleased.

The appointment of a woman to the position of coach happened for the first time in the history of women's football in the country, after professor Osvaldo Deus Lima and sports journalist, Sualis Dénde.
