2025/26 CAF Club Season Begins in September Following CHAN Adjustment
By Niyi Busari
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the schedule for the 2025/26 inter-club competitions, with both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup set to kick off in September 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to the calendar released by CAF, the first legs of the preliminary round will take place between September 19 and 21, while the second legs are scheduled for September 26 to 28.
The adjustment to the continental club football calendar was necessitated by the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is set to hold in August, serving as a major competition for home-based national teams.
Representing Nigeria in the 2025/26 CAF club competitions are: Remo Stars and Rivers United – both qualified for the CAF Champions League as champions and runners-up of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Abia Warriors, alongside the yet-to-be-determined winner of the President Federation Cup, will fly the country’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF is expected to release the full competition calendar, including group stages and knockout rounds, in the coming weeks.
