Former Tanzania national team head coach Adel Amrouche has been handed an eight-match suspension following controversial comments he made regarding the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Morocco’s alleged influence within the continental body, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Amrouche was sanctioned after publicly accusing Morocco of exerting undue control over CAF affairs, including claims that the North African nation was involved in the selection of referees for competitions.

CAF’s disciplinary authorities deemed the remarks inappropriate and damaging to the integrity of African football governance.

The fallout from the comments extended beyond the suspension, as Amrouche was also relieved of his duties as Tanzania coach shortly after the incident.

The Tanzania Football Federation moved swiftly to distance itself from the controversy, citing the need to protect its relationship with CAF and uphold the principles of professionalism.

CAF has maintained that match officials are appointed through established and transparent procedures, reiterating its commitment to fairness and neutrality in all competitions.
