The proposed international friendly between reigning world champions Argentina and Senegal has been cancelled, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The high-profile encounter was scheduled as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but it will no longer take place.

While no official reason has been given for the cancellation, reports suggest the decision may be connected to the incident that occurred during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal.

The development is a setback for the Teranga Lions, who were expected to test their strength against the South American giants ahead of future competitive fixtures.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s other planned friendly against Saudi Arabia is also under serious threat, with uncertainty surrounding whether the match will go ahead as scheduled.

Officials are yet to make a formal announcement regarding the status of the Saudi Arabia game, as fans await further clarification from the Senegalese Football Federation.
