2025 AFCON Qualifier: Benin Skipper Reveals Reason For Draw Against Nigeria

The skipper of the Cheetahs of Benin, Steve Mounie, has explained the reason they failed to beat Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Beninoise scored in the 16th minute but allowed Victor Osimhen to level up the game later as it ended 1-1 in Abidjan.

Mounie said their inability to kill off the game early cost them valuable points.

 "It is not a bad result in itself. Now we will have to go and play this final in Libya. It is certain that at 1-0, we would have hoped to win this match. We had very clear chances to kill the match".

"When you play against Nigeria and you do not kill the match, that is how it is", he said.

Benin must secure a win in Libya to be confident of qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
