2025 CAA U18/20: Burkina Faso, South Africa Claim First Gold Medals

Burkina Faso made an early statement at the ongoing CAA Africa U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta by securing the first gold medal of the competition, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Zango Salisa clinched gold in the U-18 women’s triple jump with a leap of 12.79m, edging out Morocco’s Masat Kaota, who jumped 12.39m to take silver. Tunisia’s Finel Chidi claimed bronze with a mark of 12.26m.

Later in the day, defending champions South Africa joined the gold tally as Natro Ler won the U-18 high jump event with a 2.00m effort. Nigeria’s Ikeki Daniel and Oddo Melvin secured silver and bronze, respectively.

The five-day championship, which features athletes from 43 African nations, runs from July 16 to 20.
