The president of Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau has said that the newly appointed Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle will take charge of the Home-Based Super Eagles ahead of the competition which begins on 1st of February, 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Explaining, Gusau said the major reason Chelle will take charge of the CHAN Eagles is to give him the opportunity to see quality home based players to be invited and injected into the main Super Eagles team.

"We (NFF) came up with a policy that whoever emerges as Super Eagles Coach will manage the Home based Eagles, Gusau told NFF TV.

"You can not be given the opportunity to manage a team comprising of home based players and tell us you can't get one or two players that can be injected into the senior national team. We saw what happened in the last match we played against Ghana for them to qualify for the CHAN finals. A lot of people look at it that there's hope in Nigeria football because we saw Nigerian spirits especially in the last matches in Ghana and Uyo."

The NFF on Tuesday announced the appointment of Eric Chelle as the Super Eagles and will resume with the Home based Super Eagles who will participate in the 2025 Championship of African Nations Cup (CHAN) which begins on 1st February, 2025.
