2025 World Athletics Championship: Amusan Wins Nigeria’s First Medal In 3 Years

Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, once again showed why she remains one of the world’s elite as she stormed to silver in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Amusan clocked an impressive 12.29 seconds, narrowly behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who powered to victory in a National Record time of 12.24s.

 The USA’s Grace Stark claimed the bronze medal with 12.34s, while Masai Russell of the United States finished fourth in 12.44s.

With this feat, Amusan handed Nigeria its first medal at the World Championships in three years, ending the country’s drought on the global stage. 

Her performance also underlined her remarkable consistency at major championships, having medaled in consecutive global events since 2022.

The race lived up to its billing as one of the highlights of the Tokyo championships. 

Amusan, the 2022 world champion and former world record holder, got off to a strong start and maintained her form over the barriers but could not quite match Kambundji’s blistering finish.

For Nigeria, the silver medal is a much-needed boost, marking the nation’s return to the medal table after a barren run at the last championships. Amusan’s success once again highlights her role as the flagbearer of Nigerian athletics on the world stage.
