Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, has expressed her delight at flying the nation’s flag after winning silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Amusan produced an impressive performance on Monday afternoon, clocking 12.29 seconds to finish second behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who stormed to victory in a national-record time of 12.24s.
American Grace Stark claimed bronze in 12.34s.
Speaking after the race, the 2022 world champion said she was honoured every time she had the chance to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
“But this is bigger than me. I come out here and do what I have to do for myself and my country,” Amusan said.
“I’m glad that anytime I come out to a championship win or lose I still show up.”
The silver medal marks Nigeria’s first medal at the World Championships in three years and adds to Amusan’s rich legacy in the sprint hurdles.
She previously won gold at the 2022 championships in Oregon and has remained one of the most consistent performers in the event.
With her Tokyo 2025 feat, Amusan has once again underlined her status as one of Africa’s greatest athletes, and she will now turn her attention to upcoming competitions as she continues to inspire young Nigerian athletes.
