2026 African Individual Chess Championships Set For Jwaneng With Record Prize Fund

The 2026 African Individual Chess Championships are set to take place from June 18 to 27 in Jwaneng, Botswana, with organisers confirming a record prize fund of $30,050 for the continental showpiece event, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The championship, which marks the 50th anniversary of the African Chess Confederation (ACC), is expected to attract some of the continent's finest talents, with players from 25 nations already confirmed to participate.

Adding to the prestige of the competition, the tournament will feature three Grandmasters (GMs) and more than 10 International Masters (IMs), highlighting the growing strength and depth of chess across Africa.

The event is expected to provide a platform for elite competition as players battle for continental honours and opportunities to improve their international rankings and title aspirations.

With a historic milestone to celebrate and a record-breaking prize pool on offer, the 2026 African Individual Chess Championships promise to be one of the most significant editions in the tournament's history.
