2026 WAFCON: World Cup Spot Will Be Motivation For Falcons- Babajide

Super Falcons’ Rinsola Babajide believes that the increase in teams participating in this year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will make the tournament more exciting. As the finals approach in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The Italian Serie A Femminile champion with AS Roma told thenff.com that expanding from 12 to 16 teams doesn't change much, as the motivation to win remains the same for the defending champions.

“I think it makes it more exciting. We all know that this year’s Women AFCON also serves as a qualifier for the World Cup. Naturally, we all want to qualify. I believe it will make the competition more fierce, but our goal stays unchanged.

"Whether we are aiming to be champions of Africa or to qualify for next year’s World Cup, the pressure is the same: we want to win. The real pressure comes from ourselves. As professionals and defending champions, we are determined to keep our trophy."

The talented forward, part of the squad that won the Women AFCON in Morocco last year, reflected on her early years. She credited her growth as a well-rounded player to the solid foundation she received in England and the resilience she has gained with Nigeria.

 “I’ve been fortunate to experience the best of both worlds. England helped develop my game from youth level; I am truly grateful for that.

"My growth continues with Nigeria, and I value that experience deeply. I've learned resilience and professionalism in both environments, making me a better player and person. We understand what it takes to succeed, and as a team, we will give our all in Morocco to defend our title. We are all committed to making Nigeria proud in Morocco," she said.
