2026 World Cup Playoff: Nigeria To Open Early Training Camp in Rabat

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles will begin their training camp in Rabat, Morocco, on November 9, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff campaign, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nigeria is slated to face Gabon in the opening semi-final match of the playoffs on November 13. A win in that fixture will see the Super Eagles advance to the final on November 16, where they will meet the winner of the second semi-final between Cameroon and DR Congo. The victor of the final will secure a place in the inter-confederation playoff scheduled for March 2026, which offers a last chance to qualify for the World Cup.

While the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to confirm the exact venues for the fixtures, preparations are already underway. An NFF official told The Guardian that the full squad list for the playoff games will be announced later this month.

“All the players are expected to be in Rabat by November 9, five days before the first match, to acclimate and begin tactical preparations,” the source stated.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly submitted a detailed training and preparation program to the NFF. Formal invitation letters to selected players are expected to be issued shortly.

Speaking over the weekend, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances, affirming that early planning and government backing will be critical to the team’s success.

“We are aware of the teams we will face, and we are also aware of the venue. As I speak, preparations are already in motion,” Gusau said.

He commended the players for their renewed commitment and focus, noting the significance of the World Cup to their careers.

“The level of commitment and zeal among the players is incredibly high. For them, this means more than many Nigerians might realise,” Gusau added.

The NFF president also confirmed that the federation is receiving robust support from the Federal Government and other relevant bodies to ensure optimal preparation for the crucial playoff fixtures.
