Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi will miss Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff semi-final against Gabon due to card suspension, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Hull City centre-back received his second yellow card of the qualifying campaign during Tuesday’s 4-0 win with Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Ajayi had earlier been booked on matchday one against Lesotho and, as a result, will sit out the semi-final tie.
The 31-year-old scored Nigeria’s only goal in the draw against Benin. He will, however, be eligible for selection should the Super Eagles advance to the final of the African playoffs.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday, November 13, while Cameroon and DR Congo will contest the other last-four encounter.
