The fans and supporters of the Malian national team have expressed regret and frustration towards their football federation following the impressive exploits of their former coach, Eric Chelle, with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle, a France-born tactician, was dismissed by the Mali Football Federation after the team’s underwhelming performance at the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, since taking charge of Nigeria, he has guided the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs and also secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON without losing a single competitive game.

Malian fans have now taken to social media and local radio stations to voice their discontent over what they describe as a “hasty and emotional” decision to sack the coach.

“It’s a shame to have singled him out for our poor AFCON outing. Everyone can now see how he has transformed Nigeria,” one angry fan lamented.

Another supporter added, "He knows how to motivate players when it matters most, and it’s obvious that Nigerian players love playing for him. We made a big mistake letting him go.”

Chelle’s resurgence with Nigeria has reignited debates in Mali about the need for long-term planning and patience with coaches, as the Super Eagles continue to shine under his guidance.
