2026 World Cup Qualifier: Agu Doubtful For Lesotho, Benin Clashes
Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender, Felix Agu, is a major doubt for the team’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying doubleheader against Lesotho and the Benin Republic, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Agu sustained an injury during Werder Bremen’s 1-0 victory over St. Pauli in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday.
The right-back was forced off the pitch and substituted in the 45th minute after appearing to struggle with discomfort.
The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed. Still, initial reports suggest it could sideline him for several days, potentially ruling him out of Nigeria’s crucial qualifiers later this month.
Agu’s absence would be a blow for head coach Eric Chelle, who has been impressed with the defender’s recent performances and versatility in both defensive and attacking roles.
The Super Eagles are set to face Lesotho in Uyo before travelling to Cotonou to battle the Cheetahs of Benin Republic as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
