2026 World Cup Qualifier: Broos Admits South Africa Needs A Miracle
Sampson Adedeji
South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, has conceded that Bafana Bafana now need “a miracle” to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Speaking after their goalless draw with Zimbabwe on Friday night, Broos expressed disappointment over the result, which leaves South Africa second in Group C two points behind leaders Benin Republic and just one point ahead of third-placed Nigeria, who defeated Lesotho 2–1 in Polokwane.
“Now, it’s no longer in our hands,” Broos lamented.
“It’s become even more difficult, but it’s not 100 per cent over. Maybe we still need a miracle. It’s a sad night for us.”
Adding to their woes, FIFA recently deducted South Africa three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in their March fixture against Lesotho.
