The preparation of Nigeria's Super Eagles for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho and Zimbabwe suffered a huge setback on Monday due to the withdrawal of Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The youngster returned to the Super Eagles team for the last International friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique after spending over a year out of the team.

After a splendid performance for Udinese in the Coppa Italia game against Cagliari, the coach of the national team Jose Peseiro invited him for the World Cup qualifier.

The former Watford FC goalkeeper on Monday withdrew from the team and the team technical crew has quickly drafted in Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie as a replacement for him.

The game against Lesotho is slated for Thursday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium In Uyo while the game against Zimbabwe is fixed for next week in Rwanda.
