The Ministry of Sports in Rwanda has announced that they will appoint a new coach for the Amavubi of Rwanda ahead of their World Cup qualifier which will kick off in November, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The men's football national team coaching seat has been vacant since former coach Carlos Ferrer mutually left the job in August to take charge of Belarus in the EURO 2024 qualifiers.

In the Spaniard's absence, Rwanda FA Technical Director Gerard Buschier took charge of the team as caretaker during the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Senegal in Huye on September 9.

"We expect to name a new head coach in a week and I will positively let you know," an official at the Ministry of Sports said.

A tough task awaits the new head coach to lead Amavubi during the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Rwanda was drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Benin and Zimbabwe.
