2026 World Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles Rally Around Nwabali After Lesotho Error
Sampson Adedeji
Following his costly mistake against Lesotho, Super Eagles players have thrown their full support behind goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The lanky shot-stopper endured a difficult outing in the 2–1 victory over Lesotho, with his error nearly costing Nigeria the match.
Speaking on behalf of the team, captain William Troost-Ekong insisted that no one is blaming Nwabali for the incident, emphasizing unity within the squad.
“The frustration comes because we believe in ourselves and want to win every game,” Troost-Ekong said.
“When you concede after pushing to score again, it’s normal for people to be unhappy. But this isn’t a time to point fingers. Football is a game of mistakes without them, there would be no goals. We fight for each other.”
Style He added that the team addressed the issue collectively after the match and quickly shifted focus to the decisive qualifier against Benin.
“The beauty of this group is our honesty. We talked about it briefly for five minutes, and that was it. Everyone moved on, happy with the point. The focus now is on the next game we’re in it together, no frustration or blame.”
