Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie has declared that his team is in Uyo with one mission to stun the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The highly anticipated encounter is set to take place next week at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
With Benin currently leading Group C, a positive result against Nigeria would boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
“We play football for moments like this. It’s a historic match for us, and we will give everything to take Benin to the World Cup,” Mounie stated confidently.
The former Stade Brest striker also revealed how he has inspired his teammates by recalling his club experience in France.
“In June, I told the players about my time at Brest, where we stood toe-to-toe with the big teams in Ligue 1. I reminded them that we can do the same against Nigeria,” he added.
Benin Republic currently tops Group C with 17 points from nine matches, while Nigeria sits third with 14 points.
