2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles Suffer Setback With Semi Ajayi Ruled Out
Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers has been dealt a major blow with Hull City defender Semi Ajayi ruled out through injury, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Rwanda’s Amavubi and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in September, but Ajayi will play no part in the crucial fixtures.
The 31-year-old sustained the injury during Hull City’s Championship encounter against Coventry City last weekend.
Although initially rested for the Tigers’ Carabao Cup loss to Wrexham United as a precaution, further scans revealed more significant damage.
According to the Hull Daily Mail, Ajayi is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
The setback comes after a difficult spell for the former West Bromwich Albion defender, who managed just 15 appearances in his final season with the Baggies.
