2027 Africa Cup of Nations To Return To Summer Schedule

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will return to its traditional summer calendar in the 2027 edition, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A source within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed that the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, is scheduled to take place between June and July.

AFCON has in recent years been staged outside the traditional summer window, mainly due to weather conditions and scheduling conflicts in some host countries.

However, CAF is now set to restore the competition to its original timeframe for the 2027 edition, marking a significant shift in planning.

The decision is expected to ease calendar congestion for African national teams and clubs, particularly those in Europe, while also aligning the tournament with the historic period in which AFCON was traditionally played.

East Africa will host the continent’s flagship football competition for the first time, with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda collaborating to deliver what CAF hopes will be a landmark edition of the tournament. Further details on host cities, venues and match schedules are expected to be officially announced by CAF in due course.
