2035 AFCON FINAL: CAF Sanctions Most Embarrassing Ever Experienced – Hack

Former Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee chairman, Raymond Hack, has strongly criticised CAF’s handling of the incidents that occurred during the final of the African Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal, describing it as one of the most embarrassing moments in the organisation’s history, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

CAF recently announced a series of sanctions following the heated final, but Hack believes the governing body failed to properly address the gravity of the misconduct and missed a critical opportunity to reform the disciplinary culture of African football.

According to him, the decisions taken by the disciplinary committee fell short of what the situation demanded, both in substance and in symbolic impact.

 “The disciplinary committee missed a historic opportunity to impose sanctions commensurate with the seriousness of the offences,” Hack said.

 “This is one of the most embarrassing episodes ever experienced by CAF,” Hack added that beyond individual punishments, CAF should have used the incident as a turning point to strengthen discipline, accountability, and respect for regulations across African football, rather than issuing what he described as inadequate and misplaced sanctions.

The comments add to growing criticism of CAF’s disciplinary process, with many stakeholders calling for deeper structural reforms in the administration of justice within the continent’s football governance system.
