25 Benefit As NOC, Taekwondo Federation Launch National Technical Coaching Clinic

In a bid to strengthen technical expertise in Taekwondo coaching across Nigeria, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) are set to co-host a Technical Coaches' Course in Abuja from Sunday, June 22 to Friday, June 28, 2025.

The week-long programme, which will take place at the Velodrome, Package 'A' of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, will bring together at least 25 Taekwondo coaches from State Sports Councils, Sports Commissions, and tertiary institutions across the country.

This initiative is part of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) global educational agenda, implemented through Olympic Solidarity in collaboration with World Taekwondo, the sport's international governing body. It aims to enhance the capacity of local coaches, equipping them with modern training methodologies aligned with global best practices.

 “The objective is to empower Nigerian coaches with advanced technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and adaptable coaching techniques that align with evolving international standards,” the organizers stated.

The course will be conducted by Mr. Tae Sung Kwon, a respected international Taekwondo expert from Seoul, South Korea, was appointed by the World Taekwondo Federation. He will be supported by a Korean-language interpreter from the Korean Embassy in Abuja, ensuring effective communication throughout the course.

Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday, June 22, with the official opening ceremony to be declared by NOC President, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel. The coaches will depart on Friday, June 28 following the conclusion of the training.

The programme will be coordinated administratively by NOC Assistant Secretary, Ms. Dolapo Rofiat, and will cover key focus areas such as: Mastery of Taekwondo techniques and tactical awareness, Adaptation of modern coaching methods and strategic thinking, Enhanced collaboration between coaches, athletes, and officials.

Organizers are optimistic that the course will further elevate Nigeria's standing in Taekwondo, a sport that has historically delivered podium finishes for the country at regional and continental competitions.
