Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and Ikorodu City FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Sunday in the opening fixture of the 2025 Eko International Cup, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
The Oluyole Warriors made an early statement in the Group A encounter, with Gideon Monday capitalizing on a goalkeeping error by Ikorodu City's Oyeyoga Akeem to give 3SC the lead in the 5th minute.
Ikorodu City responded strongly, equalizing in the 16th minute through Oyedokun Tosin, who calmly converted from the penalty spot after his side was awarded a spot kick. The first half ended level at 1-1.
Joseph Arumala put Ikorodu City ahead five minutes after the restart with a stunning strike that left the 3SC goalkeeper rooted. However, Shooting Stars' captain Abayomi Adebayo salvaged a point for his side late in the game, heading home the equalizer to ensure a share of the spoils.
3SC Executive Chairman, Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami, was in attendance for the match and had earlier visited the team before their departure from Ibadan. Moments before kickoff, Salami delivered a motivational talk to the players in the dressing room, urging them to approach the tournament with determination.
Shooting Stars will return to action on Wednesday when they face Rivers United of Port Harcourt in their second group game.
